Digging through our photo archive, we notice many natural textures and patterns but for some reason, none had worked their way into our designs. Today we change all that. This repeating pattern is based on two giraffe shots taken at London Zoo – see below for 'before' and 'after'. It took quite a lot of massaging in both Photoshop and Illustrator to get it to work (and yes it's the reason why we're late to post this week). However, the great thing about patterns is you can start with something simple and once you grasp the principles, the possibilities really open up. The theory behind them is fascinating – if you enjoy maths, history, design or biology, chances are you'll find something to get excited about.
We'll be revisiting patterns again over the coming weeks and we'll show you how to make your own.
