Yappy New Year
Holiday time is here
Up-to-date
Museum of London
Looking back through my project log, I realise how much I do for Museum of London. This year alone, I've worked with them on 22 projects. I work across the board on marketing & PR materials, create templates and guidelines for the Learning team and I also have my hand in the permanent displays at both the London Wall and Docklands sites. Here's a sample ... I particularly love the challenge of creating these animated GIFs with their teeny, tiny file size.

Natural History Museum: illustrations for visitor app
You may have heard that the Natural History Museum has had an overhaul. Gone is the dinosaur that dominated Hintze Hall and in its place is a vast whale skeleton, suspended from the ceiling. While working on that little project they also added display cases around the new addition. They approached us to create vector illustrations for their visitor app. Sounds pretty simple, right? The challenge was that they needed 170 rocks, 120 minerals, 35 seabirds and 40 pheasants on a very short deadline. Not only did it require we use our drawing, retouching and design skills, it also demanded our attention-to-detail, or should that be our borderline-obsessive-attention-to-detail to get it done. Are we allowed to say we're really chuffed with the result? We think so.

Horniman membership and benefactor campaigns
With so many wonderful changes underway at the Horniman Museum and Gardens, their marketing team decided to refresh the membership campaign to spread the news. I created the original suite in 2013/2014 so they commissioned me to update the lead image. We explored a few options but this lovely seahorse was the clear winner. As before, I rolled it out in multiple formats for print, web, and probably my favourite, the membership card. I'm happy to say the membership numbers got an instant boost.
On a similar note, they also refreshed their Benefactors' campaign. I created the original blue colourway a few years back and supplied the assets for a yellow version which they banked until now. You can see the blue version via the link below. I'm still undecided whether I prefer the blue or the yellow... decisions, decisions.

Agatha Christie, National Museum Cardiff
The third leg of Agatha Christie, a Life in Photographs is now underway at National Museum Cardiff.
After months behind the computer working on a show, it’s great to get out on site and see it come to life. Install needs some high speed elbow grease but with tight planning and good colleagues it’s a real pleasure. The first job is sorting and laying out panels, frames and objects. To give you an idea, we had around 65 graphic panels, 54 photos, 25 objects, 79 captions and one Kokoschka painting. Alice Graham (curator/project manager) and I did this initial work, laying out the frames first so the Artworks install team could start with the power drills. As the frames went up, Alice and I followed behind installing captions. The showcases were moved into a position that worked with the narrative and allowed good wheelchair access; then we filled them with the objects. We were given two days for install and I'm pleased to say we finished before home-time.
Many thanks to the in-house team at the museum: the conservation, mount-making and project management were exemplary.
Show runs until 3 September 2017.
